Living Before the Face of God
Coram Deo Farm is a Christian organization situated on 55 acres in the rural farming community of Thorndike, Maine. Our homestead is nestled along a westward-facing hillside, surrounded by sugar maples, heirloom apple trees, cedar and fir forests, small streams, and open fields. From the property, we enjoy sweeping views of the Appalachian Mountains, stretching from Mount Washington to the Bigelow Range.
The name Coram Deo means “before the face of God.” It reflects our desire to approach every aspect of life—our work, relationships, stewardship of the land, and hospitality—with an awareness of our Creator.
Coram Deo Farm was established to provide an educational environment for people interested in homesteading, self-sufficiency, and sustainable agriculture.
Our goal is to integrate practical homesteading skills with Biblical principles and theological thought, encouraging a way of life that glorifies God through faithful stewardship, meaningful work, and service to others.
Our Mission
We especially hope to encourage a younger generation of farmers and homesteaders to develop the skills necessary to support themselves, care for the land, and generously share the fruits of their labor with neighbors in need.
Learning and Working Together
Life at Coram Deo Farm offers opportunities to learn about:
- Organic gardening, composting, and soil improvement
- Permaculture and sustainable land management
- Raising chickens, sheep, pigs, and other livestock
- Maple sugaring and orchard care
- Wild edibles and medicinal plants
- Food preservation, kombucha, and lacto-fermentation
- Renewable energy, solar power, and off-grid living
- Traditional skills such as hand scything and wool processing
We appreciate the practical agricultural ideas of Joel Salatin and the permaculture work of Sepp Holzer, among others.
We don’t pretend to have all the answers. Learning through experience, experimentation, occasional failure, and cooperation is an essential part of life here. Visitors and volunteers are encouraged to share their own knowledge and skills.
Life on the Farm
There is always work to be done at Coram Deo Farm. Our projects include tending gardens and greenhouses, caring for livestock, managing woodlands and orchards, maintaining buildings, improving renewable energy systems, and developing accommodations for guests.
We take our work seriously, but we also recognize the importance of fellowship, recreation, and simply enjoying God’s creation.
Whether it’s singing around a campfire, playing traditional music, contra dancing, fishing, canoeing, swimming, hiking, or watching the sunset over the mountains, we believe shared experiences are an important part of building community.
Hospitality and Community
Coram Deo Farm is more than a working homestead. We hope it will be a place where people from different backgrounds and generations can come together to learn, exchange ideas, build friendships, and encourage one another.
We welcome those who appreciate meaningful work, simple living, the outdoors, thoughtful conversation, and the opportunity to learn alongside others.
Our rural setting offers a peaceful environment for stepping away from the distractions of modern life and reconnecting with the land, with neighbors, and with the deeper questions of life.
